i have a pet theory: consciousness is the combination of memory and speach. i think or feel like chatgbt and ai itself to some point is working with speach only. it can produce text abou a tree but what we want with "inteligence" or rather think like we do it cant because it never touched a tree it doesnt have a body irl that can interact with a tree. its like talking to someone about a tree and it can do that but it never felt that single tree on a hill on a summer afternoon. it doesnt know the meaning af a tree just the words. now ai knows speach and speach is in its entirety all the information humans have collected even a poem about that tree. i think asking ai to be smart like humans is asking it to "understand" the feeling of beeing alive like a human. for me the crazy thing is seeing how far it got by only producing the text most likely a human would say based on all human text ever in response to a text, it feels like it understands but it never does rly. can it have internal experiences? if U want it to be convincing it will produce whatever makes U convinced, U made it that way. but did it have the internal experience u have?
