So recently I saw an attempt at making a 3D art AI, ie generates 3D models. And as a 3D artist myself I couldn’t help thinking, wouldn’t it be better to develop and train AI to do things like topology, UV’s, Rigging? Stuff that it’s arguably better suited for and would only enhance the experience? And I feel like the same thing could be applied to 2D art, like create an AI tool to help fill in your colors quicker, contextually generate color pallets, hell even augment your line art in new ways, or maybe help with backgrounds. If the technology was designed with the intention of helping artists instead of trying to function as a replacement, and the data wasn’t obtained in such a sketchy way, I feel like AI art wouldn’t have nearly the amount of backlash it’s had. I mean just thinking about all the cool ways AI could be used to help artists makes it all the more frustrating that it’s being used in this way. You could use it’s image recognition to help point out stuff like proportional or perspective issues in your work to help correct minor flaws, it could more efficiently look up and find reference based on what you’ve drawn, there are so many better possibilities than, theft with extra steps.
