I traveled with a friend to Atlanta and got to try out Waymo cars. We definitely felt safer on those than uber drivers. A couple were definitely under the influence of something and did aggressive driving, others were intrusive and just asked odd questions that made us uncomfortable.
I will 100% be using these in the future, they will only get better with time rather than worse.
