The determining factor for a lot of people will be the cost per mile. Owning a car is very expensive, membership on a self driving car service will be much cheaper, and yeah, that needs to be combined with public transportation, I will still own my own car. But once self driving cars become affordable to use I definitely plan to get a membership. Keep my car for out of town trips.
