There is some personal responsibility here that should be discussed, too. I remember when factory workers were on TV complaining “My grandfather worked at this company and now they are giving our jobs to kids in China.” A legitimate thought response is, “why are you trying to do a job someone did 50 years ago that a child in China could do today?” (BTW, not cool on the child labor thing, but you get my point).
There is a point where upskilling the workforce begins with the worker realizing their job is going to disappear. Same with AI. E.g., if you write press releases for a living or spend hours pushing emails around or checking spreadsheets, you are that factory worker…
