I think the car replacing the horse and horses being destroyed is the wrong analogy. People aren't horses. I think AI will be more like inventions such as the plough, spinning jenny, steam engine and computer. It will make society more productive and as a result all our lives will get better. People resisted the Spinning Jenny when it was first invented in Lancashire. The inventor fled and set up in Nottingham which then became a major hub. Those Lancashire spinners lost their jobs regardless and society got cheaper cotton clothing. Governments just need to make sure the wealth generated by AI is fairly distributed.
