I remember doing my first research project. Reading scientific papers for the first time, trying to make sense of it? It felt like it set my brain on fire, I'd circle like every other word and although I did try to paste some words into chat GPT for it to explain to me, I quickly noticed it wasn't helpful and I instead tried this strategy where I'd use websites/textbooks/dictionaries to find every single thing I didn't know, write a simple explanation of it down, and then summarise the meaning of each paragraph in baby words and analogies. I found that as I did so, I came across some words repeatedly and found that I didn't need to do that silly baby summary as often because the meaning of many complicated words were starting to finally sink in. I was learning. And not only that, it felt painful yet exhilerating to do every little step of logic to apply that information. But I'm better now, and in the end I was able to write a 2000 word essay entirely on my own. If I had relied on AI, I wouldn't have learned.
