So the people who say AI programs are just doing the same thing that humans do are just fundamentally being intellectually dishonest. This is not a claim the programers of these programs even support. Ai does not have access to the same sensory data we do, it does not have sight, smell, sound, taste. It does not carry the biases we do. Or experience the flaws we do. The only sensory data, experiences is the digital info AI art programs are fed. The art of other artists, and only that art. That is fundamentally differnet. Artist do not just create through inspiration from other art alone. The totality of an artist as an individual influences the totality of their art. AI art is also theft. It is theft because it doesn't represent a creative act, it's a reproductive act meant to copy. To copy in order to out compete through stealing images. It is theft because there is nothing stopping AI art programs from selectively choosing popular artists, feeding their art into a program, reproducing their art (poorly), and devaluing the original artist while stealing their customer base. It is theft because it does this without permission. It is theft whether we want to acknowledge that or not. The only difference between ai art and a printer is how close it can get a piece of artwork without violating copy right. People defend AI art not because it a moral good and just, they defend it because it is convenient, fancy, and interesting. But other peoples convenience should not come at the cost of an artist future.
