No one really thought that they would end up truly intelligent anyway..
Did people think a calculator would replace a mathematician? Or Google would evolve to become a genius? No they did not. AI is just a smarter google search that puts words together in a way that mostly makes sense. It's a great tool. This anti LLM hype is tiresome. No serious computer scientist ever thought they would more into a generalized intelligence. It doesn't even preserve state in a way that would approximate any form of intelligence.
