I don't think these systems need any more biometric data than just a good recent photograph and some of your personal data like your passport number, credit card number, phone number or something. So they're getting this stuff at all the supermarket auto checkouts as well.
TSA have also been testing this system at Shreveport Regional Airport for at least six months on migrants released by ICE. Presumably they have got good data now on how well it works on male black, asian, hispanic people as well as Kurdish and Armenian people and a few others.
