This is a tricky issue because I agree that Google should not be the only ones making decisions about AI ethics. However, I'm skeptical of the entire public, and especially government, making decisions about things they don't really understand. I think maybe the most appropriate goal is transparency. There are specialists in AI ethics coming up with solutions and boundaries to follow. I hope there can be a reasonable self-regulation without requiring government intervention.
