As far as Im concerned, AI will never be conscious as long as it isnt run on chemical processes like our brains are. Those chemicals allow us to feel emotions, and AI doesnt have it and likely never will as theres no useful reason to give them any as opposed to programming their goals in. So I hope people dont take "AI consciousness" as an excuse to feel bad for AI and to push us further towards extinction just because they thought that the more logically perfect AI could have feelings like we do. Because they dont. We are extremely flawed beings, but we can feel. And that is why I think our existence is worth it, despite all our problems.
