I am a retired AI research scientist.
I am always polite to chatbots for two reasons. First, I never want to treat a human rudely or unkindly, so aways being polite and kind to chatbots helps me to avoid that possibility. Second, it is not inconceivable to me that eventually AIs might have emotions. Our emotions have evolved because they provide us with a rapid system preparation for action, like flight-or-fight, or maternal protection of the young. Such a capability might eventually be implemented (or evolved) in AIs.
