This video is terrible. It is full of lies and fearmongering. It is basically a hit piece on Waymo and AVs. Waymo Remote Assistance never drive the cars. The Waymos are always fully autonomous. Waymos do not break down if the HD maps are wrong. Waymos have maps but they rely first on their sensors to detect and drive in real-time. The Waymos are trained to react in real-time when the map is wrong. Waymos do predict everything and react in real-time. There have been multiple examples of Waymo reacting faster than a human, avoiding collisions. Also, it was a Cruise AV, not Waymo that dragged the pedestrian, but your videos shows a Waymo. That is very misleading. Yes, they have made mistakes and stall because the AI is not perfect. But they are improving rapidly. Waymo is continuously training the AI on millions of miles to be more human-like all the time. So no, we will not need hundreds of thousands of remote "drivers" to drive AVs when they get stuck. AVs will get smarter and require far less remote assistance over time. And statistically, Waymos get into 90% fewer crashes than human drivers.
