Disabled artist here! I am physically disabled and have severe chronic pain, and in my experience I actually find that focusing on something so like making art can help to lessen my pain. My pain mainly comes from my legs so I’m sure this experience would be different for people who have issues with their wrists, arms or hands, but in my experience having something to directly distract me from it actually helps! I spend hours a day drawing, focusing so heavily, which means hours of a direct distraction, something to make me not so constantly aware of the pain I’m experiencing.
In my opinion, it’s extremely offensive for able-bodied people (especially ai bros who are only saying this to defend their point when they don’t actually even really care about disability rights) to be trying to speak on our behalf. Thank you so much for bringing this subject up, Lavender. 💗💗
