Gotta say the slug rock band felt novel... - I agree it's unethical, though maybe it's art nonetheless - the prompter is only a collaborative client and the art machine is a thief, but the result was awesome.
I think the problems with Gen AI like copyright infringement and environmental impact are separate from whether the output can be good...
You said yourself you can be for ethical progress. So if it had been ethical would you consider the output art? Note I'm not saying therefore the prompter is an artist
