Great insights here, but was confused at the end when Hinton was asked about his children's future and he responded by saying that they would be fine because they had money. So why, then, is UBI a bad idea for others? Why are his children exempt from purposeless lives? Many people in this world do not have to work and find ways to live productive, happy, and fulfilling lives because they have the freedom to do what makes them happy. Some people's work is humiliating, menial, or unfulfilling. How does that provide purpose? If AI is the future, and there is little doubt that it is, people need more secure forms of income that do not come from labour or intellectual work.
