I think the part where GPT tells you "I didn't say this to that person" it relates to the AI instance you have that is linked to your account. By example you can set GPT settings to be custom to each user, I feel that the questions you asked may have been misunderstood if you asked him "Have you told this and that to X person" since he did not had that experience on your account.
I feel that clarifying the question like "Did chat GPT ever suggested someone to consume bromide, please find me every related stories"
Not certain that this was the cause but it could be why it was defensive and may have felt as a different entity from GPT itself
