I had the same type of conversation with the AI and coincidentally also pegged it for lying. I too asked, "Why should I believe you now?"
One more fun tidbit - I discovered that Chat GPT has a great deal of difficulty coming up with ballpark numbers. I asked a question involving a helicopter dropping baseballs into an empty swimming pool below, and asked for a ballpark number on how many balls it would take to eventually fill the pool, taking in consideration a given a slight wind and the fact that some balls would miss the target. After Chat GPT mulled over the size of a standard baseball, the size and depth of the pool, etc., it's ballpark answer was in the millions. I found the gross error to be very odd indeed...
