The bit about law-abiding citizens having nothing to worry about is always the most insidious part of these justifications.
The attempt to frame concerns about this type of surveillance as being exclusively leftwing runs it pretty close, though. They are trying to inject this issue into current culture war dynamics to generate support, and it's legitimately pathetic.
There is nowhere near enough crime and general danger to justify permanent AI surveillance. These ghouls prey on fear and, together with apps like NextDoor and Citizen, do everything they can increase the general level of fear to sell politicians and society at large on the proliferation of these systems.
