It's hard for most people (I think) to get their head around how exactly AI would manifest itself in a way that it has a gain of function which get's out of control and becomes a threat to humans. We've all seen 'Terminator' but recognise that as entertainment only.
Having said that' it's surprising how things that are seemingly just another step from what we have, evolve into something completely different. A mobile phone was more or less just the same as the phone in your house, except you could take it with you. Look how that within a few decades it's completely changed the way we live.
I'd have to correct Elon on one thing though. I use to drive buses (in Australia) and I think the intelligence level comparison between humans and chimpanzees is still up for debate.
