Watch the first episode of Start Trek, "Where No Man Has Gone Before." While it doesn't address AI (that subject actually comes up in a later episode, "The Ultimate Computer"), the story involves a crewman who gains incredible intelligence that grows exponentially. He becomes so powerful at the end, Kirk is forced to hunt him down and kill him before the crew became irrelevant and of no use to him...essentially, before he deems other humans (even his friends) as a fly like nuisance to be squashed and discarded. This all seems particularly relevant to Hinton's AI worst-case-scenario warnings.
