I could believe they might be reasonably consistent in determining which emotion someone is trying to project, but there's just not really any way it could tell how you're really feeling. As long as people can't tell that, I'd say there's but a slim chance an AI could. People fake smiles or being happy more geberally all the time, as well as hiding embarassment or arousal etc. And vice versa with positive enotions, which may be inappropriate e.g. at a funeral.
