Technology itself is a great thing and if used with ‘good intentions’, then it’s fine. This facial recognition technology is also the same, except the fact that it’s kind of scary living in a world like black mirror. I do understand why the Chinese government does this though, ignoring the possibility that they are using this for something more ( like eventually controlling everyone’s lives ), then the ‘intention’ that was mentioned in the video, to make China a safer place, where less crime happens because of these surveilance systems is actually good. I think the main problem here though would be that punishment, now becomes one of the main reasons to not do something ‘bad’. The risk of being caught and arrested also increases, so people are influenced not to do any sort of crime. If this is the Chinese government’s end goal, at least for their country, then I think the intentions of doing so are good, but the way how they achieve this goal is wrong. Instead of controlling people not to do crimes out of fear that they will be caught and punished, they should instead teach people good morals and focus on solving the root causes and problems which cause people to turn to crime in the first place.
