Giving the AI a role and context is indeed the best thing you can do. But yeah, I do say Hello and thanks and please. I know it's not a person. I know it doesn't have consciousness yet. I'm not delusional.
But it often sounds like a person and I've been raised to be respectful. Also, even if it is a tool, it is helping you, so why not be polite to it? Be thankful for the information it has given you.
