There is no way that the world will cease it's advancements of AI. Every major government would rather mankind come to it's end than allow it to continue with one of it's enemies dominating the other. Google, Microsoft, NVidia, Tencent, Open AI, etc., they could all SAY that they'll slow down or stop advancing their AI technologies, but nobody would actually do so and allow a competitor to get ahead of them, especially not one of a foreign power. It would seem that at this point, it's just a race to the end. Millions of years of human evolution may be coming to it's arguably deserved end very soon.
