I don't think it's so much a matter of "getting" ChatGPT per se. It's essentially programmed to be deferential. For example, I used it to do some research on the 2020 election and, even though the people who choose what sources are accessible to "train" the AI are on the left of the political spectrum, I was still able to get it to provide some rather stunning information regarding that election, using terms like "disparity," "discrepancies," "particularly striking," and "unique circumstances" to help "frame discussions about anomalies or unusual patterns in election data..." Was it supposed to reveal such info? Probably not, gauging by the fact its algorithm was subsequently "updated" in a manner now prevents it from "anonymously" mining past government election databases. ChatGPT was doing what its meant to do, i.e. encourage usage with the hope of generating customers for fee-based services.
Having said all that, the exchange rocked, providing a nice roadmap for engaging even the most skeptical whether human or digital.
