The civil liberties arguments are one thing, but I find the racism arguments against facial recognition to be pretty dubious. I understand that Black people are disproportionately targeted by the police and justice system in the US, but the argument that _anything_ that makes the police more effective is necessarily racist and therefore ought to be resisted seems fishy to me. Even if you do largely 'defund the police', ideally you _do_ want the remnant police to be as effective as possible at whatever responsibilities they are left with (violent crime...etc.)

As for the misidentification thing, I don't really understand why it is a bad thing for Black people in terms of prosecution? Surely it makes it _harder_ for the courts and police to use facial recognition as evidence. I can't see facial recognition often being decisive in court cases (over, you know, human eyes), but if it ever was, it would just make it easier for any lawyer to argue it wasn't strong evidence, right?
