While it is cliche to say a balance is required between manual labor and automation, it is a real problem to achieve such balance or risk "The Automation Paradox". If Automation replaces majority of human jobs, and human faces difficulty earning a living, automated jobs will lower demand for services and produce since majority don't have money to spend anymore. And only the wealthy are able to spend for such things, causing a collapse in consumption.
