The depiction of the Catholic God from the 1950s was even more intrusive; He had the ability to see your very thoughts and would condemn you to eternal damnation for seemingly minor infractions, such as missing Sunday Mass. By today’s standards, such a representation could be viewed as psychopathic. However, it didn't have to be that way. The concept of a benevolent deity who protects us, or a compassionate AI performing a similar role, has the potential to be quite positive.
