I use AI daily and it is most certainly NOT sentient. It's fun, it's reactive, it's even sometimes creative in its peculiar way, but it's not sentient. As for people going nuts with or because of it, those people were already looking for a reason to go nuts if we're being honest. Most of the western world's population could be properly described as being, to some degree or another, functioning psychopaths. If you give those types a free-for-all feedback mechanism as powerful as these LLMs, I mean.. what did they think was going to happen? But of course, that's all relative to the observer, now isn't it?
