I have a conspiracy theory regarding the AI "threats" and AI "warnings" and the "dangers" of AI. This is a move by big corporations to try and get regulation and legislation which will help them corner the market and centralize control. The reality of AI is that it's just computers doing math to find probabilities. Some AI models are very complex and use extremely complicated mathematical models, and some AI models and use simple mathematical formulas, but it's all just computers doing math. It's never going to want, feel, contemplate, ponder or dream. But, this is all to a very large degree, open source. Anyone with an understanding of the math (most of the formulas were created decades ago) and and understanding of basic coding can create an AI model from scratch. There are also open source software libraries that you can download and use to create and train your own models. You can do it in Python with very little training. That makes AI like the wild west in some ways, but it also leaves the market wide open. However, if you can create enough fear over AI potentially becoming too powerful, too dangerous and too threatening, then you can get uninformed people to demand action, and uninformed politicians to create laws and regulations. Now you have a very powerful tool which everyone is becoming dependent on in the hands of a very few "trusted" people, and they have cornered the market. Everyone is afraid of the Terminator scenario with AI, when they should be more afraid of the Captain America Winter Soldier scenario (which is has pretty much already been implemented in China BTW).
