Honestly, I've had the digital vs handcraft argument twenty years ago while I learned the bass guitar. It's a nonsense discussion to me. Some of the pedal effects I could recreate by hand using all sorts of different tools. In the end, that's cool for novelty's sake. Watching someone on a stage making all these common, weird or alien noises with non digital tools is just awesome, but I also like my bands to just play solid music. Ultimately, for me it's the end goal that matters. I like being on stage entertaining people. I like being in the crowd being entertained by people. When I make art, I do it sometimes via gen ai. Fact is, I suck at drawing or painting something realistic. When I paint, I go for drip paintings, because all I need to do is mix the paint and get it on the canvas. Screw accuracy, it's about the feels and the message. I use gen ai the same way. I can't draw for shit, but I can sure as hell, write prompts, iterate and create custom workflows for my projects. And, the stuff I make is for me or my friends.
