In the case where AI enables humans to produce way more value in way less time, consider the Jevons Effect. It may initially seem that this efficiency improvement would reduce the amount of hours we work (given that AI doesn't replace the workforce entirely), but in actuality, such efficiency will only increase energy consumption and labour will stay the same. We live in an economy that demands constant, compound growth for... ever. Therefore, the efficiency improvements offered by AI will not allow us to spend less time working, it just means we will work the same (or maybe even longer) hours and produce more value in that time. And, of course, all of that extra value will fall into the pockets of CEOs and shareholders and the like.
