If CCTV could prove the man they had in custody was 30 miles away;that means back to the drawing board. It doesn't mean save face and lie that his driver's license is fake. The prosecutor was made a lot more work. When the culprit is caught; automatic doubt is going to be in the juror's minds. "They lied about the fake license and the suspect's identity, what else are both the prosecutor in and police lying about?" This question is very likely the question that would be going through the jury's heads.
Perjury and coaching fellow officers what to say helps no-one,least of all that officer. Some judges could call giving false evidence contempt of court. This means that a judge can send anyone they deem to be disrespectful to jail for 93 days without trial or counsel.
Perhaps if judges did that and more officers saw colleagues go to jail, the perjury would stop
