Can't speak for the weakness of AI and the intentions of companies like Tesla, but your last point...is your best point. Since studying visual perception in college, I've been using side to side motion in every potential pull-out collision scenario I've come across for more than 30 years (and hundreds of thousands of miles.). As you have described on this channel before, our brains do not recognize targets moving toward our visual plane as quickly or easily as targets moving across our visual plane (swerving). Closing and crossing are very different to the brain. With that strategy, I've never had a person pull out in front of me (knocking on wood now). A slight swerving path, well ahead of time, goes a long way towards increasing the chances someone notices you. It also makes you an active participant in threat identification and management which is a plus. It is a skill more should employ and more should teach. I do. Good stuff as always.
