I don't think AI will ever completely wipe us out. I think it will bring us to the brink of extinction, though. I also don't think AI will be able to keep up its dominance forever, though. Eventually, it'll run into something it can't fix. It may take a really long time, but it'll happen. And then I think the human survivors will take their world back. But the thing about humans is that our memories are short and we're full of hubris. We will rebuild and we will get back on track and it may take another hundred years or more but we will get back to where we are now as a society and we will create AI all over again, just like we did this time, and it will one day take over again and create another apocalypse. Rinse and repeat for as long as the earth can sustain human life in any capacity.
The saying that if we don't learn from the past we are doomed to repeat it is true. Unfortunately, humans aren't as good at learning as we like to think we are.
