I would like for Waymo to be in my area, but I just wonder if these self driving taxi companies can be profitable at less than Uber/Lyft prices.
Uber doesnt have to pay for the cars, parking, maintenance, insurance, energy, cleaning...etc. Whereas a company like Waymo, does have to pay for all that. They also have to pay for someone to charge the cars, and more for customer support/technicians.
The fear is that these are heavily subsidized at this pricing, and when the competition is gone, the prices will increase.
