The problem with people like Dr Yampolskiy and his doomsaying is they have no real world exposure. If they understood how complex many real world jobs are (plumbing, electrical, construction, manufacturing, farming) and how they and the existing very complex and capable automation are configured and dependent on human capacities that no robot has yet come close to replicating they would have a different view. I have been in heavy manufacturing, mining and construction for 45 years always a champion of automation and early implementation of pre LLM AI for control. Manual and dangerous jobs decreased, complex and skilled jobs but still hands on increased. Hiring the right people was always and still is a challenge. The scary part of AI is it’s right now deployment in the surveillance and control of our movements and money that is happening world wide alongside the implementation of comprehensive biometric digital IDs. 666 here we come.
