Here's why I think Mr. Hinton is wrong that it's possible to someday imbue AI with consciousness because consciousness is an emergent property of materialism, and I mean this allegorically not literally: I don't think a machine will ever regret not spending enough time with their children when they were little. I have a feeling there's something very uniquely human about that. And it's a pointer to what consciousness actually is.
