I would think the question is, is any art original? When an artist trains to be an artist, there are photons bouncing off of what they're trying to draw that enter their eyes, which creates a signal which is processed by their brain.
Why is a neural network learning from pixel values different from brain learning from photon generated signals.
Do we know enough about the human brain to claim that what humans produce is truly original art and not a result of the training they underwent. If their training is what enabled them to be great artists, then their training influenced their art. Can we not say that's copied. May be so well copied that you might not find the similarities to the sources. Is the issue then about how well we can copy as opposed to AI which might not copy so well to be called original, not yet at least.
