In my opinion, it would be good to support a UBI at this point (but not a communist here, so just take my words with a grain of salt)
Firstly, how they fund the UBI. They implement a VAT, or a Value Added Tax, which will tax non essentials and luxury commodities more than essentials like food. This means that the bourgeoisie, who spend most of their money on these luxury items, will be paying back to the government. So it isn't really a system where money flows in one direction from govt. to the rich, but rather a circulation of money in the economy. If the taxation of luxuries are high enough, it can also means that wealth is being redistributed back to the lower class, that is if they don't spend their disposable income on non essentials.
In the future, there might be a time when workers are unemployed and they have to live with this UBI that they get. However it's overlooking one major fact, no matter how good automation gets, there will always be creation of other jobs for the working class that doesn't involve automation. For example, the concept of being an IT engineer wasn't even a concept until the 60s probably (don't quote me on the decade). And in my opinion, with the climate crisis, it might open up completely new fields of jobs which the people can take up for themselves.
