Disabled artist here! Bugger AI art. I have chronic tremors in both hands, I’ve been drawing and making art for 20+ years. I learned on cheap paper and using office pens and pencils. Art has always been a way for me to vent, humanise, display and express my self, my chronic pain and disability. It makes me happy even if it’s difficult and sometimes impossible. I’m mainly a portrait artist now and I took a lot of inspiration from Khalo, Sergent and Van Gogh. Van Gogg and Sergent’s techniques really grabbed me (VG especially with his quick, jerky motions visible on the canvas influenced me a lot) and Frida encouraged me to try more personal, abstract and Weird portraits. I love painting people, I love sitting with a subject and getting to know them hour by hour. I love the connection proper art gives you. These folks will claim AI art is about community but what community tries to steal and backstab? Disabled artists don’t exist as an argument point. We’re not a GOTCHA. We love creating art!! And would it be physically and mentally easier to use AI to produce the desired image? Sure. But it wouldn’t be my art, it wouldn’t be my subject’s face, it would be a machine copying a photo. That’s not art. That’s a party trick. EDIT/ADD ON: The joy the people I paint express when they see a finished portrait is incredible. There’s no way you could get that same emotional response with AI. It’ll eat itself alive while human art will continue to nourish the soul
