I find it very upsetting that education and purpose are being defined in such narrow mental constructs in this conversation. If people didn't have to hold a job to earn money for survival or a sense of self or place in the world - there would be infinite number of ways to create and co-create and grow. Human beings have innate drives toward creativity and emotional and psychological growth; expressed through art, psychology, and spiritual paths of all sorts. If AI did the much of the 'work' that occupies most peoples' time right now, we could focus on growing healthy relationships, including healthy relationship with the land. We could develop beautiful and functional housing and new ways to easily grow healthy food for all people on earth, we could work on instilling peaceful methods of conflict resolution - the list goes on and on. There are countless ways for human beings to find a sense of purpose. You're talking as if you're hypnotized by competition and capitalism as the only way human beings find meaning in life. I would like to hear a conversation about emotional intelligence and potential to create through joy rather than the limited concept of creating and producing only for financial gain. If all people's basic survival needs were met then we could really expand emotionally and psychologically. Our potential in these areas has been put on the back burner because of over-emphasis on money and power-over status. It would be wonderful if AI could be used to level the playing field world-wide; enabling all people to focus on emotional, social, physical awareness and growth. Alas, this is but a dream in our current world where greed and violence are often the winners - but if we can bring the possibility of another way to use our power into the conversation, maybe it will at least help empower the people who are already having this same dream.
