The logical conclusion of the race to automate everything is either the world of Star Trek or the world of Captain Harlock. In one, automation allows for humans, now free of needs, wants and greed, to pursue greater things and knowledge. In the other, society devolves into the rat utopia in which, with no necessity to occupy their time, humans revel in vice and debauchery. I'm not a prophet, but seeing how the world is today, the second case looks FAR more plausible as our fully automated future.
