Robots have already been doing most of the factory job, nothing new here. They will keep improving.
AI will more than likely contribute to that improvement. But your nation already sacrificed those jobs on the altar of immediate profit.
AI will also affect other jobs than manufacturing as you pointed out. There's nothing we can do about it and, like all revolutionary progress, it will probably bring a lot of positive things and negative things for our societies.
The role of politicians should be to regulate all that to avoid (or limit) abuses.
One of the principal way to abuse of AI is to use it for citizen surveillance. And I'm sure your NSA, who always loved doing that, is already on it.
That's where strong laws to protect citizen's privacy would be useful. But that's not what's happening, on the contrary.
Trump is pushing for the EU to get rid of our strict rules on personal data protection. A law ,to put backdoors and surveillance on chat services, almost passed in silence.
