Imagine you are living in an agrarian society working on someone’s farm and then all of a sudden wheelbarrows are invented. Now the owner of the farm has a choice. He can either continue to let you work on his farm and you can be much more productive thanks to the time you save using the wheelbarrow, or he can fire you and some of your coworkers as he realizes that the rest of his workers can pick up the slack using the wheelbarrow. This is the situation we are in right now. Ai is the wheelbarrow, the tech billionaires are the farmers, and they are not going to let us stick around. If they were smart and prioritized long term profits over short term shareholder value or they cared about the wellbeing of society they would keep us around realizing that ai is a tool that can help us save time and utilize more of our potential for the betterment of all. But they aren’t going to do that, because they are all selfish idiots who don’t care what happens after they die. So instead of this new invention lifting up the working class it will disenfranchise many while burdening the few with extra work and no extra pay until they can figure out how to fire them too.
