The problem with trying to keep the AI/SI "genie" in the bottle is that there is a narrow group of intellectual, technocratic, and economic elite that is more concerned with being able to merge with the AI/SI "Singularity" and thereby become immortal than are concerned with what dangers it presents for humanity. They are therefore not afraid of dying or being extinct but afraid of not evolving into whatever they believe the next phase of human evolution will be, which if they are at the helm of they believe they can be absorbed by.
By the way, I am a Pre-Millennialist Christian and so I believe it to be the epitome of humankind's arrogance and blindness that we believe we've reached this point in human civilization by accident and that we can be in control of the future of humanity without the acknowledgment and capitulation to an absolute morality of an absolute Sovereign God and Creator.
