If I wanted to plagiarize a Rembrandt, or copy his style. I'd need to be as good as Rembrandt. Art forgers themselves are, at the very least, talented artists. If I could copy Rembrandt, it's fair to say that as long as I don't sign the painting as Rembrandt. I earned that right to paint in his style.
On the topic of tech bros and AI advocates. They are results-driven individuals, as are many people in the world. The end product is all that matters. Artists of all stripes are individuals who are more interested in the journey than in the destination. Even if the theft was not part of generative AI. I still think artists would be bothered by AI.
