Edit: Another reason why "AI art" is overrated ties directly into those deformed and misplaced buttons, as well as the inhuman hands phenomenon; the AI is genuinely incapable of comprehending anything, especially how objects interact with and are acted upon by their environment. For instance, many AI photos clad characters with clothing that couldn't possibly stay on the characters' forms, such as tank top straps that terminate before they can even loop over the shoulder. These programs are physically (digitally?) incapable of comprehending physics or causality. Why? Because what is commonly called AI isn't really AI, as it is more like a more sophisticated calculator (i.e. put in data, receive data based on set algorithms) than an actual intelligent program. They are more akin to the Mass Effect Trilogy's concept of VIs (Virtual Intelligences), which is just the illusion of a real AI. After you give it a stupid prompt, a real AI would ask "Why?". Ultimately, how these programs are being used is self-defeating. If you just steal art from humans, you either put the humans out of the art business, or they just stop sharing their work where these programs can get them. Either way, this results in no new human art, therefore these programs could only incestually make their products from already produced "AI art". This would kill any profits eventually, as nobody would want the manufactured monstrosities that would come of it.
